Russell T x Kendall Thomas - Fake Love

Russell T explores positivity and pain with new
mixtape “Overdue the Sequel”
BOGALUSA, LA – There are many sides to Louisiana-based hip-hop artist Russell T, all of which are put on display through his music. On July 30 he released his most recent project, a mixtape called “Overdue the Sequel,” which he said is the perfect example of how he showcases those many aspects of his personality through an artform that he has loved since he was a young child.
“I’ve always been a fan of music,” Russell T said. “My big brother Tump G made a track when I was about 11 or 12 and he took me to Florida with him to the studio for the first time, and that’s where I wrote my first rap. I’ve been doing it ever since. My style is very authentic and unique. The way I use my voice – I can talk to you in so many different ways. Sometimes you might not even think it’s me on the track, but it is. That’s what sets me apart – the fact that I can talk about things that I’m actually going through and that I can make it to where people can relate to it, in a sense. With this new mixtape I’m touching on a lot of different areas. I’m trying to get your mind and your heart, but there’s also some fun-filled tracks. There are even two different covers to emphasize those different parts of our personalities. One side shows a lot of fun and living life and enjoying ourselves, and the other side shows the pain and struggles and stuff that you deal with in everyday life that doesn’t usually get talked about.”
Russell T said his influences over the years have helped mold him into the artist that he is today. He points to 2Pac, Lil Boosie, T.I., Lil Wayne, Soulja Slim, Master P, Snoop Dogg and Nas as some of his favorites. More than anything, he said those artists have shown him how to create a good energy and to be as positive as he can be through his music. He said he hopes at the end of the day, that’s what his music becomes known for.
“I try to help people out with my words of wisdom as much as possible,” he said. “Hopefully people can get something from my story and from the work I’m creating, and hopefully it can help them in their lives in some kind of way.”
“Overdue the Sequel” is the most recent project from Russell T, but he has had other successful projects over the past decade. Some of his earliest projects were created with three of his brothers, who released two local street CDs under the name Temple Boyz back in 2005 and 2008. Russell T released his first solo project, “Street Hustler Hood Motivated,” in 2010 under the independent label Str8 Shot Entertainment. In 2011 he released another project called “My Intuition,” and in 2013 he dropped the “hood-certified” project “Emotions of a G,” which received great reviews from places all over the world. Despite some setbacks to his career in the time since, Russell T has continued to create new music, and along the way has honed his own signature sound and style. Today he has become known for a different Southern style and flow that’s reminiscent of 1990s reality rap. All of his mixtapes, including “Overdue the Sequel” can be found on all major music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube and more.
