Chuck Blaze - Type Of Money
Chuck Blaze lights up northern Midwest with new sound, style
ST. PAUL, MN – When Chuck Blaze thinks about the origins of his music career, he points to two things: block parties and a Tibetan.
The block parties were usually hosted by his uncle Lester, who had a singing group that would put on shows for the neighborhood during every community barbecue. Chuck remembers watching organic rap battles emerge from those block parties and being amazed at the aggressiveness with which people would go at each other with their raps.
And though those moments thrilled him as a young child, it wasn’t until he met a Tibetan friend in Jr. high that his thoughts of pursuing music as a career first began to blossom. Their friendship was a fast one that started with a conversation in a classroom about their shared love of Tupac’s music. That conversation evolved into Chuck being invited into a recording studio for something he thought was just a fun thing to do.
“I thought he was just playing, but he was serious,” Chuck recalls. “Tupac got us to be cool with each other, and so he suggested that I rap and do what Tupac did. I never thought I was any good, but I had always seen the people in my neighborhood supporting and loving my uncle, and I wanted that feeling and spotlight, too. And when I saw those people going so hard at each other and being so serious with those rap battles, I knew I wanted that kind of aggressive rap. I wanted to be able to say what I mean and have people look me in the eye when I spit these bars. So in that moment, that’s what I did. I just let it go. And the combination of those two experiences are really what put me into music.”
Today Chuck Blaze is one of the fastest-rising hip-hop artists in Minnesota. His new song, “Type of Money” is the perfect party vibe that will put him on the map to a wider audience. It’s the perfect feel-good song for the summer. “Once you hear it, you’re gonna want to go into whatever car you’ve got and hit the highway and just have fun with it,” he said. “Or it’s gonna make you want to spend some money or something, or go do something to get more money to take you around the world. It’s flashy, it’s outgoing, it’s fun, it’s party – it’s just one of those stand-out type of party tracks.”
While he’s highlighting this song right now, he’s also quick to point out that he makes all kinds of music and he hopes fans will discover what a well-rounded artist he is. He said he creates pop music, trap, conscious records and more.
“I try to dip and dab into anything and everything,” he said. “My emotions flow. I’m an Ares, so I’m a passionate man, and I just go wherever my heart leads me. I want to be known for being passionate, outspoken and relatable. I want to be known as that guy people go to for the music I bring – one of those raw, rugged, emotional artists. With me you’re gonna get a plate of gumbo. With gumbo you don’t know what you’ll get inside of it, you just gotta swim through it and pick through it and like this or that. But some people like the whole gumbo pot. That’s how it is with my music.”
